Goodreads asked Bob D'Angelo:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Bob D'Angelo I knew about Ferguson when I worked in his hometown, at the Stuart (FL) News, in the 1980s, and always wanted to write something about him that was more than just an article. What jump-started me was a book by my former colleague at The Tampa Tribune, Bill Chastain. Bill wrote "Jackrabbit: The Story of Clint Castleberry and the Improbable 1942 Georgia Tech Football Season." Castleberry was a phenomenal star at Georgia Tech (Bill's alma mater), but was killed during World War II. The parallels between him and Ferguson were similar; while Ferguson wasn't killed on D-Day, the severe injury he suffered impacted his life and eventually led to his death 10 years later.
