Goodreads asked Richard Ayre:

How do you get inspired to write?

Richard Ayre My inspiration as a writer came mostly from the late great James Herbert. I loved the way his stories came together and usually ended up with some apocalyptic conclusion. But writers of other genres such as Derek Robinson, Bernard Cornwall and even Alastair Maclean and Desmond Bagley have influenced my work. When I first wrote Minstrel's Bargain I simply had a story that I fleshed out at the typewriter. I didn't actually plan it, that came later on. I think I just like to write. Its something I'm hoping to do more and more.
