Hi Nadia, I just finished your book The Pearl that Broke Its Shell, and was so moved by it - I absolutely loved this story from beginning to end. Thank you for writing it! Would you consider writing a sequel to let us know more about Rahima's fate?
Nadia Hashimi
This has got to be the number one question I get and it's so humbling to hear each and every time because it means that readers really cared about Rahima's fate. I would consider writing a sequel to her story only if I felt I could do it justice. Rahima goes through a lot in PEARL and it's hard for me, even though she's a fictional character, to imagine putting her through much more in a new book.
That being said, I do have a middle grade book coming out next fall that is the story of another young bacha posh. In that upcoming book, Rahima reappears and it was so enjoyable to bring her back as one of the main characters.
I'm hoping that one of these days (and maybe it'll be in a book club discussion), I'll be hit with a moment of inspiration and find a way to carry Rahima's story forward. Thanks for reading and for the question!

Hi Nadia, I just wanted to say I'm in awe of your writing! I just finished Sparks like Stars and loved every bit of it. I loved the way you created a balance in Sitara's character as a bold and independant woman while equally carrying a vulnerable, empathetic side to her. Is there a specific book you've read that you keep going back to, in times of motivation?

Salaam Nadia! Shab bakhair! I just finished reading "The Pearl That Broke Its Shell", and can't tell how many emotions I've gone thru' in last 2 weeks reading it page by page, chapter by chapter. How beautifully you've weaved together this story of Bibi Shekiba & Rahima-jan's fears, challenges, struggles and injustice with their fate, hopes and dreams. So grateful & thank you for inspiring. What inspired you to write?
