Goodreads asked N Parris:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

N Parris Take in everything! Meet new people (both old and young). Ask them questions. Let them tell you a story from long ago. If you don't like that concept, open a history book and pick a page full of interesting people and read their background. Great fiction often stems from real life stories that can motivate and inspire. My books usually contain a person of interest from history ( such as King Henry VIII and his Jester, William). I love the historical characters who were surrounded by conspiracy theories. I place them into my world and see where my imagination can take them. Characters should be flawed, heroic, depressed, happy but mostly create realism. I have populated characters while attending a funeral, while sitting on a bus in Paris, standing in line at the grocery store, and while working out at the gym. You never know when an idea or concept for a story will hit you--so have your phone ready and take notes.
