Goodreads asked Hilary Dartt:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Hilary Dartt I use this great outlining program, Snowflake Pro, which helps me outline my books before I write them. So I rarely get stuck once I sit down to write. When I do, I remember two pieces of advice. The first is from Annie Lamott: "bird by bird." Basically, she says, you just keep writing. It's okay to write a bad first draft, as long as you get the words onto paper. Scene by scene. I forget who the second piece of advice came from, but it's to keep asking, "Then what?" These three things have kept me moving forward in my first drafts!
