Curtis asked Drew Karpyshyn:

Drew, first have to say THANK YOU for all of you're work in the Star Wars universe. When you were pioneering through the Old Republic era, where did you draw inspiration while crafting this universe? Where did you get you're ideas from? What made you interested in the Star Wars universe BEFORE the saga?

Drew Karpyshyn My first experience with the Old Republic came while working on BioWare's KOTOR game. There wasn't a lot of material at the time, but Dark Horse had put out some comics that we used for our starting point. We also used some of the source material from the old West End Games RPG. The rest we fleshed out ourselves, drawing on the love of Star Wars and sci-fi/fantasy that the entire BioWare team shared.

As for when I became interested in Star Wars, blame the original film. I was seven when I first saw it in theaters. For the next four years I went as a jawa or sand person for Halloween, I collected all the action figures and I lived and breathed Star Wars. In other words, it's hard for me to remember a time when I wasn't a fan.
