When I first set out to write my debut novel, Dragon's Fire, I quickly realized that there is no way that I would be able to stuff this epic adventure into one book. So I broke the story out into books, creating the Beating Back the Darkness series.
Dragon's Fire was the first installment, and it really had a small sampling of many of the things that I wanted to see in an epic fantasy setting. However, as the first book, it was really focused on the worldbuilding. I knew that a lot of the indepth character development that I cherished, would have to come in the subsequent books. So I just focused on the story that Dragon's Fire needed to tell. That was a story that combines many of the fantastical elements of the genre, with some big challenges and questions that we must all face in life.
As I began working on the second Beating Back the Darkness book, I quickly realized that there was a place for a pre-quel to the entire series. I saw a great opportunity to write about some really pivotal moment's in the world's history. As I began to string together a series of short stories about these world changing events, I realized that it was really a single overarching story, and one that really wanted to be told. So I worked The Chronciles of Aurion into a single novella.
Once the first few drafts of TCoA was finished, I was able and eager to get back to work on book 2. Now with The Halls of the Fallen King, there were some key aspects of the world of Aurion that had not been explored in any great detail yet. The first and foremost being the nature of the world's magic. While it is hinted at in Dragon's Fire and explored a bit in TCoA, we get to dive in deep in The Halls of the Fallen King. That magic system is very unique and very fun, and it is also the first time our characters ever get exposed to it, so there are so many possibilities that the book gets to explore. The excitement of sharing this story and all its complex possibilities is exciting, and I can't wait to share it with my readers!

How's your relationship with Tate? I have them and they're so slow responding to emails. They come back with answers that are already what I said in the email 2 weeks earlier. My books are P.O.D. not sure if that's industry standard or their way of putting out new authors.
