Tiger Hebert Roshan, the world of the Stormlight Archives would be awesome, because deep down I'm like really certain I'm a Knights Radiant. So of course I'd help old Dalinar and co. save the world from destruction.

As cool as that is, I'd probably still pick Narnia though. I really like their King. ;)
Tiger Hebert What if?

I have had a lot of family members from prior generations who were very smart in unconventional ways, some with true genius in different areas (creative, business, & athletic). However, most of them failed to reach even a smidgen of their potential.

Admittedly, it probably wouldn't interest many readers, but a book where my family members actually reached their potential would be fun (for me). Perhaps they would achieve these goals through the aid of a future self, who traveled back through time. ;)
Tiger Hebert I actually spent a lot of time contemplating this answer, and I thought of a lot of couples from both books and film. Since I don't really do romance, I find that I often gravitate towards couples that either make me laugh or posses great strength and endurance.

Iskaral Pust & Mogora (Malazan)
Toby & Happy (Scorpion)
Ryan Reynolds & Sandra Bullock (The Proposal)
Vin & Elend (Mistborn)
Henry & Jo (Forever)

In the end I kept coming back to Dirjek and Mara from my serial novel, The Republic. I know this is cheating, but here's why I pick them. The readers are just getting to know them, but I already know them intimately, and these are the kind of people you can't help but root for.

Dirjek was a young man with big dreams. Mara was the young woman who believed in him enough to pour her entire fortune into him. When it all came crashing down and the dust settled, Mara was still standing at his side. They've been put through the wringer for fifteen years, and through their hurts they stand fiercely loyal to one another.

As I discovered writing them, readers will find that Dirjek is bright and driven and willing to lay it all on the line for his family. Mara on the other hand is cautious, but feisty and outspoken. Together they are a team that is willing to fight for their family, and for what is right.

Tiger Hebert I would love to! It's just a matter of timing. Generally weekdays are unavailable. When were you thinking?

Thanks,
Tiger
Tiger Hebert Hello Kristin!
The Chronicles of Aurion will be coming out in paperback, but it will probably be at a few more weeks. I just need time to straighten out the formatting for the print version.

Dragon's Fire is definitely available in print already (paperback) and you should be able to order it directly though any major book retailer or through Amazon. I also offer signed paperback copies through my site - www.tigerhebert.com (and they are a little cheaper too)!

I hope this helps!

Tiger Hebert When I first set out to write my debut novel, Dragon's Fire, I quickly realized that there is no way that I would be able to stuff this epic adventure into one book. So I broke the story out into books, creating the Beating Back the Darkness series.

Dragon's Fire was the first installment, and it really had a small sampling of many of the things that I wanted to see in an epic fantasy setting. However, as the first book, it was really focused on the worldbuilding. I knew that a lot of the indepth character development that I cherished, would have to come in the subsequent books. So I just focused on the story that Dragon's Fire needed to tell. That was a story that combines many of the fantastical elements of the genre, with some big challenges and questions that we must all face in life.

As I began working on the second Beating Back the Darkness book, I quickly realized that there was a place for a pre-quel to the entire series. I saw a great opportunity to write about some really pivotal moment's in the world's history. As I began to string together a series of short stories about these world changing events, I realized that it was really a single overarching story, and one that really wanted to be told. So I worked The Chronciles of Aurion into a single novella.

Once the first few drafts of TCoA was finished, I was able and eager to get back to work on book 2. Now with The Halls of the Fallen King, there were some key aspects of the world of Aurion that had not been explored in any great detail yet. The first and foremost being the nature of the world's magic. While it is hinted at in Dragon's Fire and explored a bit in TCoA, we get to dive in deep in The Halls of the Fallen King. That magic system is very unique and very fun, and it is also the first time our characters ever get exposed to it, so there are so many possibilities that the book gets to explore. The excitement of sharing this story and all its complex possibilities is exciting, and I can't wait to share it with my readers!

Tiger Hebert My faith of course is a source of inspiration, but every it comes from so many other sources too.

Many people say that writing, when even no one would read your story, is the sign that you are a true writer. I understand that completely, we all have stories that need to be told, it's part of who we are. BUT, I also believe a story doesn't come to life until it has been experienced by the readers. Knowing that they enjoyed that experience compells me to push forward.

Other books are one of my greatest inspirations. The way that authors like Brandon Sanderson, Mark Lawrence, and Robert Mullin simply suck you into their world is fascinating and inspiring. I appreciate being drawn into fast, rich, and complex worlds, and I want to offer the same thing to my readers.

My own characters inspire me too. Knowing that Theros, Dominar, and Kiriana all still have a story to tell, gives me the drive to keep working to bring them to life.
Tiger Hebert Hello Michael!

I sent you a more detailed response, but simply put, true Traditional Publishers do not operate as a Print on Demand. However your Hybrid and Vanity publishers do.

When looking for a Traditional Publisher, you must keep in mind that even many of the bigger Publishing Houses now also have imprint labels that serve as Hybrid/Vanity pubs, while still carrying a well branded name. I believe Hatchett and Orbit are among those that do this.
Tiger Hebert Make time to read and write every day, even if it is just an hour.
Tiger Hebert I don't really deal with writers block as much as I do with motivation and time. I often only get small increments of time to write, and sometimes it is tough to take advantage of them, when I know I am just going to get interrupted.
Tiger Hebert Finding out that people are excited about something you created is one of the best feelings in the world. Getting to share that excitment with them is awesome.
Tiger Hebert I have finished the first draft of the next book in the Beating Back the Darkness series. I am now in the revision/rewriting process of The Halls of the Fallen King.

I am also working on a side project called Tales from Darkness, which is a series of short stories that will ultimately tie into the series at a later point (Books 3-5).
