Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?

Tiger Hebert I actually spent a lot of time contemplating this answer, and I thought of a lot of couples from both books and film. Since I don't really do romance, I find that I often gravitate towards couples that either make me laugh or posses great strength and endurance.

In the end I kept coming back to Dirjek and Mara from my serial novel, The Republic. I know this is cheating, but here's why I pick them. The readers are just getting to know them, but I already know them intimately, and these are the kind of people you can't help but root for.

Dirjek was a young man with big dreams. Mara was the young woman who believed in him enough to pour her entire fortune into him. When it all came crashing down and the dust settled, Mara was still standing at his side. They've been put through the wringer for fifteen years, and through their hurts they stand fiercely loyal to one another.

As I discovered writing them, readers will find that Dirjek is bright and driven and willing to lay it all on the line for his family. Mara on the other hand is cautious, but feisty and outspoken. Together they are a team that is willing to fight for their family, and for what is right.
