Michael J. Sullivan:
I have just finished reading Riyria Revelations and will be going straight onto Riyria Chronicles, however, it would be such a shame to lay to rest the protagonists of these two brilliant series. Will you write about the ordeals of rulership for Royce, while continuing his partnership with Hadrian? You have endeared these two characters to readers, would you consider writing about their future adventures?
Michael J. Sullivan
For many years, the answer was no. Because I felt that the ending of The Riyria Revelations wrapped things up neatly, and I didn't want to risk ruining something that I felt was darn near perfect. There just wasn't any way to "up the stakes." But . . . now that I've gone back in time and written Legends of the First Empire and The Rise and Fall books, I now have a conflict that tops what has come before and it allows me to write beyond the Revelations. The problem is I have a very high bar to clear - and only if I clear it by quite a large margin will I be willing to release these books to the world. So I'm currently writing them now (it's called "The Cycle") and I have the first of two books written. They've gone well, but I won't "officially announce" them until the whole series is completed and I'm satisfied with the whole arc.

So my friend (who started me on your books on the first place) told me you were writing a follow-up to the Riyria books, but that it wasn't going to involve Hadrian and Royce. What motivated this decision and who will it follow instead? Also: How did you come up with some of the various languages and cultures in Riyria?
