Goodreads asked Catherine Chant:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Catherine Chant How much time have you got? LOL. I could write a long essay on the thought process that lead to NOTHING STAYS THE SAME. The idea developed over a long period of time.

In short, I wanted to write about a decade I remembered vividly from my childhood--the 1970s. And since NOTHING STAYS THE SAME would be the follow-up to WISHING YOU WERE HERE and needed a music theme to fit with the series, I turned to my musical influences from that decade. Up at the top of the list were The Monkees and David Bowie.

I also wanted to pay a little homage to some of my favorite TV shows as a kid. Popular shows like "The Brady Bunch" and "The Partridge Family," but also shows that might be a little obscure, like "The Kids from C.A.P.E.R." and "The Bugaloos," that I've never forgotten.

So all that led me to create my own made-for-TV band, The Beat Detectors, and their Saturday morning TV show, "Goody Gumshoes." Both of which feature heavily in NOTHING STAYS THE SAME.

The rest is history, as they say. :-)
