Cintia
Cintia asked Theresa Romain:

Hi, my name is Cintia and I'm from Argentina. Being a writer is what I want the most in this world, nothing makes me happier than writing, but I'm more and more frustrated with each passing day, because I've been blocked for 3 years. And it is not that I have an unfinished story. I have NOTHING AT ALL. A blank page in front of me, that only makes me sadder... Is there a way to overcome this? How do you handle it?

Theresa Romain Hi, Cintia—thanks for getting in touch! Sounds like you’re not giving up on your dream, and that’s vital. It also sounds like that blank page is bothering you. I completely understand; a blank page can be really daunting. Do you usually write in longhand, or on a computer? You might try switching formats to see if that helps break the writer’s block. If you get a notebook for writing longhand, maybe doodle a little before you start to write so that the page isn’t blank and your pen is moving in a creative way. It’s also totally ok to write junk—even “I’m not sure how the story starts”—just to get yourself used to putting words on the page again. There’s not one right way to help yourself through a block, so just try things to see what works for you. Best of luck!
