Emily E asked April Henry:

Hi i have read Girl stolen and the girl who was supposed to die and i was wondering how do you come up with these kinds of stories? And will there be any new books or sequels coming soon?

April Henry First of all, guess what I just went to my editor on Monday? The sequel to Girl, Stolen!! Second of all, a lot of my books start with a news story I read or hear about and think, "What if?" For Girl, Stolen, there was a real local blind girl who was briefly kidnapped when someone stole her mom's car with her in it. She was released after about ten minutes, but I thought "What if he kept her?" Then I added a bunch of other what ifs, like what if the thief was a teen and her family was rich. The Girl Who Was Supposed to Die was inspired by a song lyric (although the bioweapons info was carefully researched). The next book is called The Girl I Used to Be and was inspired by a real 30-year old case where a girl grew up thinking her dad killed her mom, but that wasn't true. I am always writing a book (I will start a new one this coming week) so there is always something in the pipeline.
