Goodreads asked Nicholas Maes:

How do you get inspired to write?

Nicholas Maes My ideas for books come from without but my desire to write comes from within. I wake up early to get an hour of writing in before work, I've arranged my day so I can put more hours of writing in, and part of the weekends and holidays are reserved for writing as well. I'd even say I became a teacher in part because it would give me lots of time to write. In final analysis, someone is a serious writer (in my opinion) not because she's managed to get a book published, but because she writes at whatever chance she has. No one has to remind her to write; it's just something that she does, day in, day out, as mch as possible.
