Goodreads asked Rob Needham:

How do you get inspired to write?

Rob Needham I'm most creative when I'm allowed to simply daydream and follow long meandering trains of thought until they arrive somewhere interesting. A small seed of an idea will remind me of something else by some thin association, which will loosely remind me of yet something else, etc. not unlike an abstract game of Uno. Seldom does this work while I'm otherwise mentally engaged, and being an absolute glutton for stimuli, the first challenge is to deprive myself of any external distractions for a long period. A common example for me might be going for a long run without wearing headphones. It has served well numerous times, but oh boy is it painful. But then, a fruit must be squeezed before it will give up the juice.
