Holly asked Kimberly Collins:

Do you plan before you write?

Kimberly Collins Typically, I start with a destination in mind, but not a plan as to how I will get there. As the writing continues and the story takes shape, I create a timeline of events in the story to keep me straight. My next novel, Mingo, has quite a few characters and covers a few decades, so I will need a "family tree" and a serious spreadsheet for the timeline to keep things clear in my mind. I don't write in any sort of linear fashion - I write in scenes and I go from the beginning to the end and then back again. It is like a fabulous puzzle when I start placing the scenes together.
