Jon, I love both books, can't wait for the third book. I really hope Queen Byleth is not really dead, and also Lord Mulcibar's niece. And Lord Astaphta coming back from death, that thickens the plot and him easily defeating a kurgaru. that's freaking awesome. I don't think Horace stands a chance, I really wish he just goes back to the west with his companions but that won't be fun. Is the book a trilogy or more ???

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Let me answer some of these questions for you.
Alas, Queen Byleth and Lady Anshara are really dead. Sorry to disappoint, but Astaptah doesn't like leaving loose ends.
I'm glad you enjoyed the ending with Astaptah. Does Horace stand a chance? Maybe, maybe not. The deck is certainly stacked against him. I'll tell you this much -- Horace is having doubts about this war, too. He's going to have to make some hard choices.
This series is going to be (knock on wood) four books.
