Sherry Jones:
Hi, Sherry There are several books written on Josephine Baker, which includes one by her husband and her son. Lynne Whitfield portrayed her in a television movie. Will your book be considered a historical novel or another bio?
Sherry Jones
Urenna, thank you for asking about my book-in-progress! My Josephine Baker book is biographical fiction, an imagining of her remarkable life based on the many books I've read about her, the Jazz Age in America and Paris, the art and music of that time, the Harlem Renaissance, Berlin in the 20s, the French Resistance during World War II, the early Civil Rights movement, and more. I even went to Paris and to her amazing, storybook castle in Dordogne, France, to visit the places where she lived and worked--which made for more than one spine-tingling experience.
My novel explores her transformation from a young performer hungry for love to a courageous spy and civil-rights activist, a woman changed when she found something outside herself -- and greater than herself -- to live for.

I read Josephine's last dance recently, really enjoyed it, and you will now have to write at least an addendum to the next edition: despite being the most horrible president we've had in France, Macron yielded to a petition asking for Josephine to be interred at Le Pantheon, one of the highest honours that can be given to a person. https://tinyurl.com/4pwpb6vw Yay!?!

Sherry, This is such a powerful book. At times, I'm having trouble reading it because of what she went through as a child, but I keep reading because you've written it so beautifully. We also went to Paris this last summer and I couldn't help but think about Ms. Baker when we were there. How long did it take you to collect all this information?
