Goodreads asked Alistair Potter:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Alistair Potter Stick [ ] brackets in the text with 'helpful comments' like [needs work] or [fill-in this bit] or [weak] etc. Then move forward to a scene I can visualise, or want to write, and get that written. Approaching the end of the novel, I can back-track through the text using a simple search on [ or ] and find the bits I missed or need to work on. Eventually, after visiting a section enough times, I can usually get rid of the brackets.
