Although inspiration is important, a career writer needs to learn to conform to "office hours". By this, I mean that you should just sit down and write, whenever you can. You cannot wait until you're "in the mood", not if you want to be successful at this.
When I do sit down to write, I usually have a hot or cold drink next to me and I listen to the music playlist for the book, which I compile while I'm still thinking about the plot.
