Hi Ruta! My name is Christen and I'm a high school student from Portland, Oregon. When I read "Between Shades of Gray," it lit a flame of inspiration to begin writing. I was wondering who/what inspired you to start writing? I was also curious about any advice you have on creating a character with depth and conflicting emotions and thoughts, but still making it clear and precise. Thank you.

Thank you, Christen!
There are many authors who have inspired my love of story and writing: Roald Dahl, Edith Wharton, and Rod Serling, to name a few. Since I write historical novels, in many cases the characters are loosely based on people I've interviewed and met. They are real and they've shared their experience, joy, pain, and loss with me. Channeling those real emotions into characters gives them dimension and depth. Hope that helps! :)

Hi Ruta! Im from Spain and I have read Between Shades of Gray(Entre tonos de gris here) and Out of Easy. I also have relatives near Russia and they told me how they lived during the URSS occupation,as you tell in Shades of Gray,so your book helped me to understand how terrible those years were. Well, my question is:Which period are you planning to write about in the future?Germany during Nazism,The Hundred Years' War?
