Terri Becker Foschini asked Sally Kilpatrick:

Do you have a definite day or time scheduled to sit and write or are you an on the go writer? Is it better for example to write while at the airport or at a kids' sporting event or while waiting at the doctor appointment in the waiting room? Is your focus better sitting in your favorite southern restaurant or locked away in an office in your house for example? Terri Foschini

Sally Kilpatrick In a perfect world I would have a specific time to write, but my days aren't quite predictable thanks to all of the kids' events. I usually give myself a weekly word count and then fit it in where I can. I have written at all of the places that you mention, but I don't recommend kids' sporting events or carpool. Airport is fine. Gabriel's is where I wrote most of The Happy Hour Choir, but I wrote most of Bittersweet Creek and Better Get to Livin' in my office. Alas, I'm still looking for a good chair.

For focus, I used to be able to write with voices all around me and just be able to tune them out. Now I'm getting to the point where I need quiet or, if quiet can't be had, then I like to write to instrumental music, especially soundtracks.

I'm also thinking about taking some little residencies away from the house because all of the mess is distracting. I finally hired a housekeeper, but Rome wasn't built in a day and my house ain't going to get organized any quicker. Thanks for the question!
