Sally asked Chris Kuzneski:

I've just read and reviewed "The Secret Crown" - fantastic! Thank you. I love your books and I think you're one of the best writers out there. I love Payne and Jones who keep me laughing all the way through, making a great story awesome. Once you have your story idea, how do you then develop the plot? Is research something you do before you start, or as you go? And what else do you do as part of your process?

Chris Kuzneski Thanks! I'm thrilled that you enjoyed THE SECRET CROWN.

As for your question, my process is pretty simple. I choose a topic that interests me (for instance, King Ludwig of Bavaria) and read up on it before I start to write. Then I sit down and make up the plot as I go. I don't believe in outlines -- I actually HATE them; they stifle my creativity -- because I want my stories to have a sense of spontaneity. The characters don't know what's going to happen next, so why should I?
