I toyed with writing back in school, even started a sequel for The Moon is a Harsh Mistress (I guess now we would call it fanfic) on a line printer and greenbar paper. Then got out of writing for fun for a long time.
This work was based on a dream I had that worked out to be chapters 1, 2, and 4 of my current work in progress. From there it grew as I told it to my wife and family. They kept asking strange questions and pointing out problems or missing details. So as I fleshed it out to them it became clear that I needed to write it down.
