Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all)

What is your writer's routine? Do you work in a specific place, have certain things that you do to get in the mood--or just scribble when inspired?

Ron Andrea On mornings I write, I re-read and edit the last chapter I wrote. That gets me into the story. Then I start writing. (Usually I've done my research and have the next chapter plotted, at least in my mind.) I try to type the new chapter straight through, that is, not editing or re-writing. Sometimes it takes only an hour or so to do this, sometimes all morning. Then I set it aside. (No re-reading or editing until the following morning, when I repeat the process.) On a story that I'm "into" I can write 50,000 or 60,000 words a month. (Yes, I've done NaRiMo twice.)

That works fine for fiction, less well for non-fiction.
