I love many of your books, Gail. I am curious, though, about Fairest. I am so anxious to know what inspired you to write this book. What sparked the idea for Aza's journey of self-discovery?

When I reread the fairy tale, it hit me that black-as-ebony hair with red-as-blood lips with white-as-snow skin is not an attractive combination, at least not according to common ideas of beauty. Everything followed from that realization.

This is not a question, but I wanted to tell you that Ella Enchanted was my all-time FAVORITE book growing up (and I read a lot of books). I'm sure even now I could recite many parts from memory from reading it so many times. Thank you for creating something that has brought me such joy!!
