Can't wait until September for your Napoleon story which I will review! In the meantime would you like to take look at look at my Napoleon's Rosebud, a darkish new book set during Napoleon's exile in Saint Helena?

Thank you, Humphry.
Napoleon is fascinating, isn't he? Absolutely unique.
I'm sorry but I can't read anything beyond my stack right now. I'm deep into a book on Caravaggio, drowning in research and rough drafts.
I do wish you the best with your book.

I would love to talk to you about "The Bloodletter's Daughter". This was the 2nd book I read by you (in less than a week!) and I loved it, but that part where Don Julius starts going crazy with the ax in this bedchamber and then you find out it's not who it's supposed to be...I'm glad, but it's driving me crazy not knowing exactly who it was and what happened there! Is there any chance you could divulge those details?

Ms Lafferty I now know, thanks to you, why the Satanic Verses earned Salman Rushdie the fatwa - he dared to speak about patriarchy in Islam. One mustn't ever challenge the impotence, sorry, importance of the penis in history. Esma Sultan, your creation, is one of the great Wise Women of fiction. More, more, more please! ? (oh, have to have a question mark? Can't just say an admiring 'thank you'?
