Goodreads asked A.L. Buehrer:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

A.L. Buehrer First of all, I want to warn everyone, if somebody tells you to "just write" or power your way through writer's block with pure self-discipline, take that with a pinch of salt.

Writer's block often has an identifiable cause. Sometimes you have to get out of that wordcount-obsessed productivity mindset to see it. Often, if I'm struggling to write, it's because I've lost my sense of direction and need to address plot or thematic issues I've been sweeping under the rug.

Other times, it's simply mental or physical exhaustion. You're not a writing machine. Despite what you might have heard, you don't need to put words on a page every day. Trust God's timing. You're growing as an artist and as a human. You can't expect the same performance from yourself 365 days every year.
