Sadi asked Jim C. Hines:

I have had the chance to read (and listen) to all of Goblin Quest and all the Princess books and I love them. I was wondering what inspired you to take a look from the point of view of the "villian" and what happens after happily ever after?

Jim C. Hines Thank you!

I've always had a bit of sympathy for the underdogs. Heck, I've been a fan of Charlie Brown for as long as I can remember. So I felt bad for the goblins. They get no respect, and basically just show up so the heroes can kill them on their way to the *real* challenge.

As for the princesses, those books came about in part because of my daughter, who was going through a princess phase at the time.I wanted her to see princesses who could kick butt and save the prince and take on the bad guys and so on. I also wanted to challenge the idea that you marry your prince and the story just ends, with everything being happiness and rainbows after that.
