Goodreads asked Lisa M. James:

How do you get inspired to write?

Lisa M. James From a young age, I have always been into creative writing. I would love writing short stories and poems for myself when I was in elementary school and middle school. When I was in high school I started to think about becoming an author. My dad was extremely supportive which was a big surprise, since writing was not a stable career path, but he became my greatest motivator. He would tell everybody he knew that I wanted to become a "novelist." It was encouraging and nerve-wrecking at the same time, because I hadn't written a single published thing. I even told him to stop telling people about it, because what if I failed. It wasn't until after he past away that I made it a serious goal for myself to get one book published. It took over 8 years, but God provided a way for me and I was able to dedicate my first novella, "The Whispers of Shadows," and Book 1 of The Fifth Kingdom series, to my dad. I always loved to write, but my dad was and is my greatest inspiration.
