Hi dear Miss Kelly I am yasin and a fan of you! how can you motivate yourself for writing and stay motivated? what is your advice for young writers who want to start writing? and feel free to advice me! :) Regards
Martha Hall Kelly
Dear Yasin, I think the best motivation is loving what you're writing about. For me it was this true story of Caroline and the "Rabbits" but every writer has their own pet story. My advice to a young writer who wants to start writing? Just do it. You don't need a degree necessarily, just a story you feel really passionate about and lots of hard work and the desire to learn. I read every "How to Write a Novel" book out there and feel like I had some of the best teachers in the world. Hope that helps!

My book club spent over an hour discussing the Lilac Girls yesterday. It lends itself well to a group discussion. We have a couple of questions one of which you answered below. Is Paul's character based on a true person? Although some of us felt Caroline had a more fulfilling life without him, some of us thought she may have been happier had she not brushed him off so harshly.

Martha Hall Kelly you've done it again!! I just finished Sunflower Sister and I believe, although Lilac Girls and Lost Roses were terrific, this is your best work yet! I especially like how your notes at the end spoke about what was fact and what was fiction (I always wonder about those things when reading historical fiction). Congratulations, I believe you have another "hit"! Now my question is , "What's up next?"

I read and reviewed Lilac Girls sometime last year. It is one of my favorite books and have recommended it to so many of my friends to read. What is the name of the house in Connecticut where Caroline lived? I would love to visit it. I can't wait to read the prequel you are writing. If you have the ability to send my an ARC I would definitely review it for you on Goodreads and Amazon. Thanks, Marilyn
