Goodreads asked J.E. Martin:

How do you get inspired to write?

J.E. Martin I've always made up stories in my head. One of the ways I connected with them when I was a kid was when I was coloring! It seemed like characters and scenarios always came to me rather vividly when I was brain-deep in a coloring book.
I can do the same thing these days--I have a collection of coloring books (half with pretty, frilly pictures and the other half with naughty words) that came from my mom and husband. You can probably guess which half came from which person!
If I want to let me mind wander on a storyline or character, I can sit down with a coloring book and a beverage and go to town.
But usually, inspiration strikes at the worst times--while I'm trying to go to sleep, or when I've just started to vacuum. When that happens, I go over the ideas that come to me a few times mentally to commit them to memory, and I write them down as soon as I can.
I have also been known to note them in my phone right away if they're just too good to pass up.
