Goodreads asked Peter A. Flannery:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Peter A. Flannery For me there are several best bits:
I really enjoy coming up with the initial story and plot.
I feel a huge sense of relief and satisfaction if I can get a scene to work the way I want it to.
It's great to be able to make some money from my writing.
But more than anything else, it's hearing a complete stranger say how much they enjoyed my books. To know that someone really appreciates the hard work and emotional investment often moves me to tears. It's a sign of how much it means to me and also a sign of how insecure we writers are. We have enough ego to think we have something worthwhile to say. But that ego is fragile and, certainly for me, it needs the validation of my readers.

I don't write books for myself. I write books to share what I have inside my heart and my head. My main ambition is simply that people enjoy my books.
