How do you get inspired to write?

Derek Barton My first novel centered around an intriguing thought: how would you trust someone with your life if that person was schizophrenic (or had a similar malady) that didn't allow them to tell what is real from fantasy? I wanted my protagonist to be constantly battling himself and trying to measure up to everyone's expectations (including family members). Pretty difficult to do if you are the heir-apparent to a kingdom facing war. My sequel will center around another character from the first (not my original protagonist). I found myself really loving the character and got a lot of feedback that others wanted to see more of this strong female leader. So, I always aim to please my readers as well as my own inner reader! LOL
