Derek Barton I have and would love to do one. Currently, I am finishing up a collaboration with my father called The Hidden. He actually did the first draft of it back in the 90s but after not getting anywhere with the publishers at the time, he shelved it. I convinced him to dust it off and now it will be published this year! The biggest hurdles I see to collaborating other than time management would be writing styles and if the two authors' writing complement each other well. If this was more than a general inquiry, send me an email and we can discuss further.
Derek Barton I recently re-read an old favorite medieval fantasy series called Mordant's Need by Stephen R Donaldson and loved that. Right now I am delving into Stephen King's Finders Keepers, the 2nd in the Bill Hodges Detective Series. Really a fascinating take on the grim detective story genre.
Derek Barton This just happened a month ago, and while it was a completely random event, I know somehow and in some way, I am going to put the following scene in a horror story of mine: I have been routinely walking at least a mile to two a night after work in my neighborhood. It was getting pretty late (maybe after 11 pm) and the wind had picked up. I noted a small white piece of paper, the size of an index card which had blown in front of me with the word "We" on it. After walking another block a similar size piece of paper was in the center of the sidewalk. It said "See". When I got to third paper about a half a mile down the road, I froze in my tracks. It said "You". If the hairs on the back of my neck stood up for me, I thought that this would be good for my readers! LOL
Derek Barton I do apologize for the delay -- the books are all packed up and will be sent out this Friday. Just have not had the chance to get everything done due to attending an out of state convention and demands from my day job. I am really happy to hear of your interests and I hope you will enjoy the book. Working hard on the sequel currently!
Derek Barton The first couple that springs to my mind is the couple, Stu Redmond and Frannie Goldsmith, from The Stand by Stephen King. An absolute great book!! Its original characters and the engaging story is mind-blowing but one highlight was definitely the bond and the love shared by these two which struck a chord within me and made me feel as if I grew up with them.
Derek Barton The idea for my novel came about because I wanted to write a story of a character that had no grasp of what was real or fantasy. I wanted to explore the various obstacles, conflicts and challenges he would have with family, friends and people he was connected with. I thought it would be an intriguing idea of what if this person was thrown into a position of power and then how would he handle it. Pretty happy with the story's outcome.
Derek Barton My first novel centered around an intriguing thought: how would you trust someone with your life if that person was schizophrenic (or had a similar malady) that didn't allow them to tell what is real from fantasy? I wanted my protagonist to be constantly battling himself and trying to measure up to everyone's expectations (including family members). Pretty difficult to do if you are the heir-apparent to a kingdom facing war. My sequel will center around another character from the first (not my original protagonist). I found myself really loving the character and got a lot of feedback that others wanted to see more of this strong female leader. So, I always aim to please my readers as well as my own inner reader! LOL
Derek Barton **Just finished writing my horror short stories sagas, IN FOUR DAYS. I will be compiling these and submitting them on Kindle very soon.
**Will be selling CONSEQUENCES WITHIN CHAOS on Nook.com (Barnes & Noble official website) very soon!
**Writing my outline for THE BLEEDING CROWN, sequel to CONSEQUENCES WITHIN CHAOS!
**Still writing short story blogs and self-publishing blogs on my sight, TAKE THE NEXT STEP (Https://rivyen.wordpresscom).
Derek Barton I have been fortunate to not have suffered with writer's block. I find that by developing a solid outline and detailed character portraits, I have a clear path to where I am going in my story. What I do suffer from is the lack of writing time and writer's "many-interruptus"!!
