Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Kathleen Kent I was asked to create a short story for an anthology of contemporary crime--Dallas Noir. The lead character, Detective Betty, a strong, female narcotics detective who moved from Brooklyn to join the Dallas Police Department, stayed in my imagination, and when the publisher asked if I could develop an entire novel around the concept, I jumped at the chance. The Dime is the first novel in a planned series.
