Hi! I love your books, especially Ella Enchanted and Fairest! I am an aspiring author, and I'm researching traditional publishing vs. self-publishing. Why did you decide to traditionally publish and what are some of the pros and cons of it? Thanks so much! (Also, you have a beautiful smile.)

Thank you! I was first published twenty years ago when the only self-publishing option I was aware of was through a "vanity" press. I don't know what I would do if I were starting out today. With self-publishing, you keep more of each sale, but you have to do a lot more non-writing work.

My mother and I read Ella Enchanted together when I was six years old. It inspired me more than I can say. I'm twenty-two now and I still return to Ella, like to an old friend, for comfort and encouragement. Thank you for your work. It's played a huge role in my aspirations to become a writer. Have you ever considered writing a sequel to Dave at Night? Btw, my daughter who is now 26 years old, wrote a letter to you when she was about 11 or 12 -- yes, an actual physical letter, sent through snail mail! She was thrilled when you responded and still has the letter somewhere buried in her childhood treasures box. Dave at Night was one of her favorite books. I was as excited as she was, if not more. :)
