Goodreads asked A. Yamina Collins:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

A. Yamina Collins Read, read, read. And write. Be okay imitating other writer's voices until you find your own. It's like learning to walk. It just takes time and practice. Also, if you're an African-American writer, brush up on literary stereotypes before you write. Little do you know, there's a huge chance you're contributing to the deadly, and negative image machine that influences our own oppression.
