That's a tough question, I really read a little bit of everything. I was reading Lazaretto by Diane McKinney Whetstone when I decided to start writing my fourth novel, which is my first attempt at historical fiction. Bernice McFadden, Terry McMillan, Zora Neale Hurston, Judy Blume, Toni Morrison and Bebe Moore Campbell were some of my early influencers. I do like enjoy books by writers such as Khaled Hosseini, Jesmyn Ward, Kayanna Mathis and Yaa Gyasi. I do like to read books that I can enjoy as a reader but learn from as a writer.

Hi, Sadeqa. The Yellow Wife was one of the best books I read last year and possibly the best I’ve ever read on Slavery. You did an outstanding job. My question is: ‘Where the Bad Girls Go’, is this a new novel coming out? or was that an older book that got published under a different name. Really looking forward to reading your next book.
