Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Melanie Cusick-Jones My latest book is 'Faris and the Monoceros' - the second book in the Faris series, which is aimed at readers 7+.

I knew when I was going into writing the book that this one would be about an adventure that gave Faris the chance to explore more of the new world he was living in. There were also hints about the darker side of this world dropped at the end of the first book.

The main influence for the setting is Dante's 'Inferno' - it is a journey into darkness. Anyone familiar with the path the pilgrim takes in 'Inferno' will find little nods to it as Faris and his friends go on their journey into Eclivity. The other element which develops in this book is the link between the magical creatures and myths and legends of the British Isles - spriggans and figlia faeries are both associated with this region. In this book, I blend more of these mythological creatures with ones of my own creation, to build the wider magical world seen in The Core and Eclivity.
