Jarrod Lacy
Jarrod Lacy asked Matthew Huff:

What led to your inspiration to write poetry and your choice to review and critique T.S. Eliot's "The Wasteland" as a part of a series onYouTube? Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Matthew Huff Hey Jarrod -

First, I fell in love with The Waste Land in college when one of my professors taught it. Since then, I have taught Eliot's work in my classes and have recently gained a new admiration for Four Quartets.

Regarding poetry, I remember being first attracted to it in high school. I admired Longfellow, Poe, Frost, Bradstreet, and all the Americans you typically read in high school. Then, I lived in Nashville for a few years during grad school and thoroughly enjoyed songwriting and lyric writing with a friend of mine there. I also happened to hear Billy Collins at a reading there and started working my way through his collections. Now I teach poetry and literature at a high school south of Atlanta, so somewhere in that journey, I developed a strong passion for poetry.
