Emily and Mark from M.L. Buchman's Nightstalkers series are my favorite fictional couple because their relationship dynamics feel very modern: meeting in the workplace, respecting each other's intelligence and professional achievements, being attracted to each other's success and ambition as well as having sexual chemistry, and pushing each other to be the best, strongest versions of themselves.
Emily and Mark as individual characters make them a compelling couple. Both of them struggle with archaic entrenched ideas about gender roles in military service and in life.
