Mike Shevdon I think it would have to be Sun Wolf and Starhawk from the Ladies of Mandragyn/Witches of Wenshar by Barbara Hambly. It's the dynamic between them that's fascinating - a deep and abiding trust that weathers the perils they endure. The whole series turns on their relationship, and yet it's always fresh.
