Erik Pevernagie
“The day we decide to drop the flimsy makeshift scenarios in our cluttered mind and eschew the ‘alleluias’ of self-importance, life can become genuine, lucid and graceful, like a flow of wellness in the glow of a new morning. ("Words flew away like birds")”
Erik Pevernagie

“Let us not ruminate on lost cases, creating imaginary scenarios of spite and revenge. Let us honor our valuable mental time, follow a positive road instead, and dump barren and gnawing resentments and destructive anger. ("The umbrella")”
Erik Pevernagie

Shannon L. Alder
“Never let your fear of the unknown and things being too difficult make your choices for you in life. One of the saddest lessons in life is finding out that your fear made the situation worse than what it was and a braver person stole the dream you gave up on.”
Shannon L. Alder

“Most areas of intellectual life have discovered the virtues of speculation, and have embraced them wildly. In academia, speculation is usually dignified as theory.”
Michael Crichton

“While futurists imagine multiple possible futures, quantum physicists research multiple present realities.”

“She had imagined all kinds of hellish scenarios that made getting eaten by the zombies sound like a pleasant alternative.”
Jason Medina, The Manhattanville Incident: An Undead Novel

“As I sat on the back of his bike, Anh Bao pointed out local sex workers he recognized as they walked out of a bar with their arms wrapped around Viet Kieu men. He had gotten to know these women when he parked his bike outside the bar around closing time to offer cheap rides home to the women who had been unable to secure a client for the evening. Over the course of nearly three hours spent cycling the city, I took everything in—making mental notes of things I would later enter into my research. Anh Bao was a storyteller; and as we stopped outside each place, I propped on his bike laughing as he made up dramatic scenarios about the kinds of love affairs that occurred in each segment of the sex industry.”

“Recognition

You are in front of your home, about to enter, when someone calls your name. You turn around and see a complete stranger hurriedly walking towards you.

“I’ve been waiting for you, where have you been?”

Seeing your exasperated expression, she adds, “We were supposed to meet, did you forget again?!”

“You have the wrong person,” you reply, adding, “I have never seen you in my life.”

“Please tell me you are joking,” she says in, what looks like, genuine disbelief.

You have no issues with forgetfulness, or memory, in general, but she seems absolutely certain. She goes on an on, providing details about your previous meetings and talks. She knows more about you than a stranger would, but she could have found these things out elsewhere. She says you never exchanged phone numbers, but instead always agreed where and when you would meet next time.

She doesn’t want anything in particular, except your acknowledgment and that you stick to the agreed upon meeting for that day.

How do you behave?
What do you do?”
