“If we misspell the message of our life story and cannot take control of the lane that we have set out, we’ll keep on wobbling on the tightrope of our future. ("Waiting for Mr. Out-placer")”

“While we teeter on the tightrope between the present and the future, confronting the limits of our imagination, life may one day help us unsuspectedly unlock the secret door between urgent and substantial flows. If we have the knack of recognizing the discrepancy between pressure and loosening up, between hurry-scurry and meditation, we can create our own lane and avoid the pitfalls crowding our days. ("The unbearable heaviness of being" )”

“Not just the normal back-and-forth. A prickle in the air, a slicing edge. I couldn't tell if it was about her, or just the day that was it, or if it was the squad. Murder is different. The beat goes faster and harder; the tightrope is higher and narrower. One foot wrong, and you're gone.”

“Do you have kids?" Anna asks.
I laugh. "What do you think?"
"It's probably a good thing," she admits. "No offense, but you don't exactly look like a parent."
That fascinates me. "What do parents look like?"
She seems to think about this. "You know how the tightrope guy at the circus wants everyone to believe his act is an art, but deep down you can see that he's really just hoping he makes it all the way across? Like that.”

“VILLAIN.
By Omrane Khuder.
Staggering, tripping, stumbling down the tightrope,
hastening to be set free.
Yearning to be protected by the Superhero,
before the Villain’s revulsion ingests me.
Misplacing my footing on the tightrope,
hands sweltering as the rope is pulled away.
Glancing down at the fire below me,
the chuckling Villain has won today.
Little did I know, it was He setting me free.
Little did I know, the tightrope was me.”

“For the Muslims, I’m too worldly. For other groups, I’m too religious. For militants, I’m too moderate. For moderates, I’m too militant. I feel like I’m on a tightrope.”

“Planet Earth - the universe's verdant tightrope of consciousness for lonely homo sapiens to traverse.”

“22. Faith in God is like believing a man can walk over Niagara Falls on a tightrope while pushing a wheelbarrow. Trust in God is like getting in the wheelbarrow! To believe God can do something miraculous is one thing; to risk His willingness to do it in your life is another.”

“The Walker by Stewart Stafford
The walker takes a step forward,
Positive but possibly fatal to them,
Brave but perhaps foolishly ambitious to onlookers.
Concentration and breathing, the antidote to cynicism,
The pole, like cat’s whiskers,
In feline prance.
Moment to moment,
Heartbeat to heartbeat,
The procession continues.
With creeping inevitably,
The destination is reached,
And the walker falls to their death.
Another adventurer steps out onto the wire,
A descendant of the expired walker,
Determined to complete life’s tightrope.
