Have yo tried reading Raymond E Feist the Magician... etc
I see you have Jacqueline Carey's "Kushiel's Dart" in your to-read list, which seems like a pretty good match. In fact you have lots in your to-read list that might serve. But you might also like Jim Butcher's "Codex Alera' series (starts with 'Furies of Caleron'); it has pretty much everything you are looking for except a female protagonist, though it does have some very strong female characters.
If you don't mind a much darker/more adult series I would highly recommend George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series. Patrick Rothfuss's The Name of the Wind is also excellent, but so far only the first two of the trilogy are published.
@susie I'm on the last of R. Feist's book of Riftwar. It's very long but it's full of intrigues and I can't tear my eyes off it. I wonder which came first, G.RRMartin's ASFAI rthis because the concept of the Great Game is nearly the same. I'll check that Magician out too. Thanks.
@Steve Thanks I'll check those out and try to scan my to-read list sometime. It's grown pretty long and I don't remember much of what's in it anymore. -^
@Sarah I read George Martin's novels but decided to stop a few years back because he takes too long to write the next one. Will pick it up again when the the series is done. Thanks. I'll check that P. Rothfuss novel out. ^-^
The first Riftwar books predate GRRM's ASOIAF by a wide margin (more than a decade). And I enthusiastically second Sarah's recommendation of Patrick Rothfuss's 'The Name of The Wind': without a doubt one of the best fantasy novels I've ever read.
Wow. I've just finished the Empire Trilogy. It was I think the longest novel I've ever read yet not one word is missed or passed by. I want more but the Empire Trilogy seem to be the only Empire story and what I enjoyed most was the great game and characters that have Acoma ties. I will definitely check out The Name of the Wind but I wish to know first if issues are resolved in each book? I can't bear a cliffhanger ending.
I badly need to read the entire Riftwar saga from the beginning. I have only the vague recollection that I read the first one or two, somewhere back around the dawn of time. :-)
Likewise it's been a little while since I read The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear, so I can't swear that all issues are resolved in each book. In fact right off I'd say that they *aren't* all neatly resolved, but at the same time I don't remember either book ending in a cliffhanger, per se.
Another series you might like, that fits your request to a tee, is Michael J. Sullivan's 'The Riyria Revelations', starting with Theft of Swords. It's excellent, and has the advantage of being complete.
