The username refers to the Goodreads policy of removing reviews dealing with bad author behavior, specifically authors harassing reviewers who disliked their book.
My reading tastes are somewhat eclectic, but a common theme is that I love to learn about experiences different from my own. The genres most represented among my shelves give a sense of my reading tastes (except that YA/children's only have high numbers because I added a lot of books I enjoyed as an actual kid). But my interests fluctuate and so I may not be reading much of a particular genre at a given time.
I have a challenge to read a book set in every country in the world, hence the "world books challenge" shelf. These books don't have to be written by a native of the country, although I prefer it. I've written more about the challenge in the "writing" section below. Do send me a recommendation if you've read a great book from a country I don't have yet! Or even if I do have it, because I'm always looking for great books.
I am a critical reader and rarely give 5-star ratings. Some 5 starrers are more for emotional involvement and some for intellectual appreciation, but either way, these are the rare books I'll go out and buy after reading them. It's increasingly rare these days that I fall in love with a book the way I used to, and I typically only give 5 stars a couple of times a year if that. Usually 4-starrers are very good, 3 is decent-to-mixed, and 2 is fairly bad; 1 means it's awful or inspired active dislike. Half-stars are for books that fall in between. I generally consider anything 3.5 stars and up worth the read, and some 3-starrers as well.
