Can someone recommend more books like the Blackest Gold series by R. Scarlett? Preferably without vampires, werewolves or shapeshifters in general.

When I'm not reading I can normally be found rewatching seasons of GoT or Vikings.
The first ever book I read, alone as a child, was 'The Secret of the Mansion' which is the 1st book of the Trixie Belden: Girl Detective series. I then went on to own all of that series and needless to say that was the start of my bibliophilic tendencies.
These days I'm into Dark Romance, the darker the better. I also don't mind flirting around the edges of taboo subjects every once in awhile. ...more
