Good gay romance novels. I know the sayin “don’t judge a book by it’s cover,” but the excessive masculinity in *most* of the covers of the books I’ve seen in my searches totally turns me off from even giving it a chance. I know the sayin “don’t judge a book by it’s cover,” but the excessive masculinity in *most* of the covers of the books I’ve seen in my searches totally turns me off from even giving it a chance. Maybe I actually would like Hothead or whatever, so I’m open to others recommendations.
I like sweet stuff more than anything. The kind of behavior or thoughts people might expect more out of girls than guys, but screw traditional gender roles and expression. Kyell Gold’s Waterways was exemplary, and Out of Position series was good, too. But I really liked how Waterways almost immediately kicked off the relationship, and it was a friendship that developed into something closer. It was really pleasant, warm and fuzzy reading these characters get along, and slowly realize just how much they care about each other.
Rainbow Rowell’s Carry On was nice too, though it just took way too long to get to the romance, or even the relationship, considering one of the pair was totally missing from most of the book. Alexis Hall’s Looking for Group was pretty cute too, except for times like it addressing one character’s stubble; and the side characters felt very much like window dressing, and needless amounts of detail in the MMO combat and stuff. Mary Calmes’s Change of Heart: similar delay problem to Carry On, and different speaker’s lines in the same paragraph was disorienting and annoying—and definitely started getting into stuff I don’t like, the protagonist going on about hot, beautiful men and how his groin feels ech—I don’t think I’ll finish that one.
So that all’s to give insight into what I like and don’t like. It’s really frustrating how impossible it seems to find books/authors that actually appeal to what I like. After spending so much time searching, maybe someone can help me out here. If so, I’d be forever indebted to you tbh lol...more
