This guy is wonderful. He wrote 'The Executioners' which they made into the movie Cape Fear. I, however, love the Travis Magee series. I am so jealous that you are starting them for the first time. I've read them all twice (or more) Magee is the quintessential tough guy, like Spencer, but MacDonald can out plot and out write Parker hands down. And don't get me wrong, I really like the Spencer series.

This guy is the best for funny AND tough. The movie was good but it could never do the book justice. The sequel is 'Be Cool' but I think the character, Chili Palmer shows up in a couple of his other books. He's so good I think they've filmed almost everything he's written and they ALL fall short. At least they do to a dedicated Elmore Leonard junkie like me.
